How to Avoid Getting a Computer Virus or Worm

•  Handling of Downloadable Files: There are many programs that you may download from different sites but these sites may carry many unwanted application attached with the downloaded files. And soon as you download these files on your computer the malicious application that executes itself and as a result the system gets infected. So you need to download software from trusted sites.  So you need better look at the extension for mischievous files that often exhibits fake extensions that are designed for tricking you such as “txt.vb” or “jpg.exe”. Windows often hide the common files extensions to make the browsing through your files. To make these extension visible open the Windows explorer and click on the View tab/menu and then go to Select options. Then click on the view tab folder options of window and then uncheck on the “Hide extensions for known file types” box. Then scan the downloaded files. You must also read the license agreement that you blindly accept especially from companies that you've never heard of before.  
• Dealing with Emails: Don’t download the attachments from the source that you are not aware of. Email attachments are the most common way for sending viruses and other malware. So you should not click on the attachments or links from the emails from someone you don’t know.

Protect yourselves

•      You must need to install an antivirus program that is present active all the time and protects your computer from viruses. You it regularly for scanning your computer.
•       Install an anti-spyware program. Apart from infecting the computer there are many malicious programs that can hijack your browsing experience.  
•     You must enable the Firewall for protecting your network ports.
•      Keep your windows updated: There are many viruses and other malicious programs that exploit the holes present in windows software.  So if you keep your copy of Window updated your system you will be much more secured.
•     Be careful while using the USB you need to scan before using the computer.
•     Keep a backup of your data a regular backup helps to alter any damage done by the virus.
